First Herb Walk in 2011 ......................

I went on a herb walk yesterday , found a couple of plants I haven't been able to identify. Hope someone can help me i.d. the plant above and the one below. I think the plant above is some type of cress , it forms in a rosette , found it growing in the garden and the field. The center is a purplish-red color and it's blooms are white. Could it be spring cress ??

I found this little beauty growing in the woods. I'm not sure what it is , but it's lovely. Please let me know if you can identify this plant.

Yippee , the chickweed is growing. I'll be harvesting some soon.

  1. I have been wondering what that
top plant is myself. Hope it is
    edible or medicinal.

    The other plant has interesting
    leaves. Lovely!

I want to figure out how to
id chickweed. Does it have a
    poisonous look a like?

  2. The first plant is Hairy Bittercress (Cardamine hirsute). Not sure about the second plant.

You really know your plants! :0)

  3. Your Welcome JoyceAnn
    for the Valentine verse!

I like the quote and like to
    hunt for both flowers and
    weeds. He probably meant it
in a different way but I like
to think of it in the context
    of the botanical blessings of
    this life God gave us!

    I made dandelion vinegar
    yesterday.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Thanks so much , Jeanne ! I knew it was some type cress , but couldn't properly i.d. it. Thought it might be spring cress because it had white blooms.

  6. PS. Is it edible and can we make vinegar out of it?

  7. Flassie ~ It is edible , tried a raw leaf or two Fri , tasted delish. It wasn't bitter like I expected , but it probably gets more bitter as the weather gets warmer. I'm sure you could make vinegar , but I haven't read anything about the nutrients from the plant yet. I do plan to make a wild salad next week and I'll be adding some of the leaves to the salad.
