I don't know why this herb is called " Dead Nettle " , it's a beautiful plant with some great healing properties , but the name doesn't fit it , the name makes it sound deadly. I made a cup of tea with the leaves and blooms today , it taste just as it smells , very earthy. I'm out of honey at the moment , but I imagine it would have been very tasty with a spoonful.
While I was gathering some dead nettle , I also gathered chickweed , violet leaves , flowers and wild onions. I plan to cook the chickweed , the violet leaves will be dried out for teas and I'm going to dehydrate the wild onions. I'm so " Happy " it's herb season !!

Your baskets are beautiful...did you make them?
ReplyDeleteDo you use a dehydrator for your herbs?
Hi Jeanne ~ I didn't make my baskets , they're thrift shop finds. I do have one I made many moons ago when I took a class , but I never made another.
ReplyDeleteI use a dehydrator sometimes on certain herbs , but I air-dry too.
How do you dry your herbs?
~ Herbal Blessings ~
I'd like to see the air drying process.
ReplyDeleteIt is called dead nettle because it doesn't have thorns. The other one with thorns makes you more lively with the ouch that comes out of the mouth when you try to pick it.
I think you should rename it.
Just like Anne in Green Gables
changed the names of places on
Prince Edward Island.
Did the tea get your kidneys to move?
I was wondering if it did that same as
coffee without the side effects.
PS. I think we had some chickweed out here. I went to pick it and I did touch it before I smelled an awful odor and noticed white powder on the plant. Poison I suspect to kill the weeds.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think they were going to spray anything till the day after I went out to pick it.
That is the bad thing about living in an apartment. They spray with killer sprays that cause cancer for both humans and animals. Not good. People are allowed to have animals in these apartments. I wonder how many get cancer. There are kids that play on the grass too.
You know how curious kids are. It just not good that they are always spaying for something to kill it.
I mean without the side effects of caffeine.
ReplyDeleteHi Flassie ~ Sorry I'm so late to answer your questions. I didn't really pay any attention to the effect it had on my kidneys , really wanted to see what it taste like.

Flassie ~ Sorry to hear about them spraying everything with chemicals , be very careful of that.

Oh, Ok, Thanks JoyceAnn! I went and plucked some out of the ground and plant them in pots. I will see if I will be able to grow them that way.
ReplyDeleteMy clover I planted in a pot is really growing. Hope to get some blooms.
God Bless You and Yours!!!
