I found a chickweed recipe at this website called Herbmentor I thought I would share. You can click on this link to see this recipe .....................
http://www.herbmentor.com/articles/20080307 or this is my own version.
~~Chickweed With Pasta ~~
8 cups of chickweed leaves and stems
2 or 3 small cloves of garlic
2 tsp of olive oil ~ I used chickweed olive oil
2 tsp. lemon juice ~ or more to suit your taste
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp of freshly ground black pepper
Red pepper flakes to your taste
Parmesan Cheese
Cooked Pasta ~ I had some leftover spaghetti noodles I used , since I didn't want them to go to waste.
I washed my chickweed , although the recipe said you don't have to , mine was a little dirty since it's just starting to sprout out and lying very close to the ground. I threw it into a small saucepan and added a tbsp of water and minced garlic, cook over med. heat for about 5 - 10 minutes , until wilted. In a separate bowl I added the 2 tsp of chickweed flavored olive oil I have on hand , sea salt , freshly ground pepper , lemon juice and some red pepper flakes , once the chickweed is ready , put in bowl and stir to coat chickweed. Serve over pasta , with freshly shredded Parmesan cheese and more cracked black pepper or red pepper flakes to your taste. This recipe was very good , it'll be on my menu regularly , since chickweed season is comimg soon.

Sounds and looks so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting the chickweed
on the background of the white paper.
It really helped in identification.
Your Chickweed girl is so cute!!
Thanks for the recipe and the
link to the other one.
God Bless You and Yours!!!
Joyce Ann,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what the
heartshaped leaves were
in front by the chickweed
in your basket?
Also by the broken limb
are heart shaped leaves
in a scalloped rounded
leaved plant. Do you know
what it is also?
What about the lilypad looking
scalloped leaves to the right of your basket next to the chickweed. Do you know what it is?
Thanks for any info. I've seen both the scalloped and heartshaped lately. The heartshaped reminds me of mint in texture sort of.
i am bouncing back and forth between your blogs joyceann! lol thanks for the shout out at your other site:) yum! lucky you finding chickweed:) i am still hoping i see some popping up on the days when the snow melts a little. did you get a chance to look around herbmentor besides the recipe? just got home and of course, had to check puter, but i need to get this old rear in gear and get cleaned up before bed. 3 grands tomorrow to tend. had a surprise day off today. my son tommy, whose almost two year old son dylan i watch, decided to take the day off so my hubby and i could celebrate our anniversary:) nice huh? big hugs and catch up with you soon:)
ReplyDeleteforgot to say, i LOVE that sketch!
ReplyDeleteHi Flassie ~ The scalloped-toothed leaves in front of the basket are Gill-Over-The-Ground or Ground Ivy , my guide says the dried leaves make a fine herbal tea , but I haven't tried it yet.
ReplyDeleteThe other two plants , I'm not sure what they are. One does look like mint , but I haven't been able to identify it. That plant always grows near chickweed , they're like two peas in a pod.
~ Be Blessed ~
